These days, more and more people say that
they suffer from stress, usually work-related stress.
The main physical symptoms of stress are
tiredness, stiff shoulders, and headaches.
Psychological symptoms include depression,
a feeling of being unable to cope with life's everyday difficulties
and feelings of insecurity.
A survey of working women in five different
countries found that the most popular approach to work-related
stress relief was getting a sympathetic person to listen
to your problems.
66% thought that griping gave them some
kind of relief and 68% said that sports or hobbies gave
them relief from stress.
It was found that Japanese women gripe less
than western women and that one of their most effective
stress-relievers was "watching TV comedies".
When the basic causes of stress are removed,
the symptoms disappear.
These causes usually include a heavy workload,
not enough office space, confused or incompetent management,
a long commute to and from work, and problems with relationships.
As many of these causes are unavoidable,
stress relief is absolutely necessary for many people.
However, it is up to the individual to find
his/her own way of relieving stress.
