This would block out sunlight and result in a cosmic winter, which could last for years. If it landed in one of the oceans, it would result in tidal waves which would destroy coastal regions in that part of the world. However, although there would be a lot of suffering, it is unlikely that it is big enough to cause the extinction of humans and other animal species. However, there are many good reasons for not taking end of the world predictions too seriously. In 1844 an American prophet gathered 50,000 followers together, predicting that the world would end on October 22nd. Marie Gabriel, a nun from Poland, predicted that the world would end on July 16, 1994, and an Irish priest said that the world would end in 1996. As so many people have been wrong in the past, maybe we shouldn't be too afraid this time!
152	（英会話リスニングスクリプト） The dictionary defines politicians as people who are concerned with the government, involved in running a country, or of public affairs in general. When we look at a newspaper, we can see how many different political systems there are in the world; they range from democratic systems as in Japan to one party dictatorships in countries such as Libya. There are monarchies in countries such as Saudi Arabia and communist states such as North Korea and Cuba. However, nowadays, when you mention the word "politician" to most people in the world, you get a negative reaction. Few politicians are actually regarded as idealists or dedicated servants of their countries. They are more viewed as people interested in power or putting themselves into situations where they can make more money from their business contacts and influence.
