At school, she didn't do well in her examinations,
but was good at sport and popular with the other girls.
However, she loved children and when she
left school she got a job as an assistant at a nursery school
in London.
In 1980, she was first seen with Prince
Charles and, in 1981, their engagement was officially announced.
Initially, Diana enjoyed the attention of
the media and the marriage seemed to be going well; Prince
William was born in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1984.
However, soon there began to be rumours
that the royal couple were unhappy with each other and a
book was published, stating that Prince Charles had continued
to stay in touch with Camilla Parker Bowles, his old girlfriend,
all through their marriage.
In 1992, they announced their formal separation.
After her separation, Princess Diana's strength
surprised the press.
Her enthusiastic support for several charities
and her compassion for Aids sufferers and sick children
touched many people around the world.
The Princess was very photogenic and became
the most photographed person in the world.
Unfortunately, this was to lead to her tragic
death at only 36 years old.
Millions of people all over the world wept
as they watched her funeral on television.
