Last Monday, my friend Akiyo left Japan
to study abroad in Texas.
I met her three years ago when we were both
students at Kansai Foreign Language University.
We were both in the tennis club and we spent
a lot of time together.
Now she's staying in Dallas and she will
be there for about 18 months.
The night before she left, we had a goodbye
party for her at a small karaoke bar in Minami.
Akiyo is usually shy about singing karaoke,
but she sang a lot of songs that night.
We stayed there for more than four hours,
singing and drinking.
Everybody got a little drunk, so we all
decided to stay at a hotel.
The next morning we all felt terrible.
I was worried about whether she can get
to the airport on time.
First we had to go to her house to pick
up her suitcases.
Her mother was not happy with us, but she
was not too angry either.
We made it to the airport in time.
I waved goodbye to Akiyo as she boarded
her plane.
Although I was happy for her, I was sad
to see her go.
