Last summer, Yumi, a friend of mine, went
to London to study English.
She stayed there for a month and, when she
came home we talked about her time in England.
There were people of many nationalities
in her English language school; most of the students came
from Spain, Italy and France, but there were some students
from Germany and Switzerland, and a few from Turkey and
Saudi Arabia.
There were a few young Japanese students
there as well.
At first, she found it very difficult to
speak because she was very shy, but some of the other students,
especially the Italians and Spanish, spoke a lot, although
their English wasn't always very good.
A lot of the students didn't come to all
the classes and often missed the first lesson in the morning;
for them, going to nightclubs was more important than studying
English.
However, she thought that the course was
useful and she liked her teacher.
She enjoyed spending time with her host
family and talking to them.
She said that London was a very exciting
place and that she would like to go back there again soon,
for a year, if possible.
