child, adoption seems to be the perfect solution.
Adoption is a difficult and emotional issue,
with many obstacles and problems occurring.
Not knowing who their real family are can
often leave the adopted child with a lifelong sense of loss.
Hereditary diseases often go unexplained.
Some try to track down their birth parents,
sometimes with happy reunions but often ending in disappointment
or rejection by their biological parents.
This can have a damaging psychological effect
on the adopted person.
For the birth mothers it sometimes becomes
impossible to forget about the baby they gave up.
This can prevent them from leading happy,
successful lives.
Adoption has become a lucrative industry,
companies arrange meetings between expectant young women
and the hopeful couples.
Once adoption was shrouded in secrecy, the
shame of having a fatherless child was best dealt with in
a speedy and secret manner, this secrecy caused many injustices
to occur, particularly to the young and frightened woman
who gave up their babies.
Records were sealed making it impossible
to track down lost parents or children.
Nowadays the system is more open, but with
the advent of the internet illegal adoptions, private arrangements
involving the exchange of large amounts of money are common.
Couples are not adequately checked and children
are traded as if they were a commodity.
