I got my driver's license when I was 17
years old and, unlike many beginners,
I wasn't very timid.
I really enjoyed driving extremely fast
on empty highways at night.
My favorite place to drive was on Highway
#80.
That highway was in the mountains and had
some very steep curves.
A few months after I got my driver's license,
Matt, a friend of mine, asked me to take him for a drive
around Lake Travis.
Lake Travis is a beautiful area and you
have to take Highway #80 to get there, so I told Matt that
I would take him on Sunday.
On the way to Lake Travis, I was driving
very fast when a police car suddenly came up behind me.
The police car was also driving very fast
and its siren was wailing loudly.
I was very scared.
My parents would be very upset if the police
gave me a speeding ticket; they might even take my car away.
I slowed down and stopped my car, and waited
for the police to follow me.
Instead, they passed me by, chasing someone
else.
I didn't speed very often after that experience.
