I think the only time I've experienced rudeness
in England has been about accents.
I was working once up in Edinburgh and I
had rented a room I somebody's house that was kind of in
the suburbs, down a really tiny, small street and every
night when I finished work I took a taxi home because I
couldn't figure out the bus system at all.
So finally one night everyone talked me
into taking a bus back so I got on the bus and - they said
that was the right bus for where I was going.
I was on the bus and the driver suddenly
brought the bus to a halt.
He spoke to me in a very thick Scottish
accent and I didn't understand a word he was saying.
I tried to be a polite as possible and said
"I'm sorry, I don't understand, could you speak slowly?",
but all he did was spoke louder and got angrier each time
I asked him to repeat.
I continued to apologise and asked him to
help explain how to get back to my address.
Evidently he was giving me directions, but
I didn't know that and he was getting extremely irritated
with me because I couldn't understand his accent.
