Ten years ago, the streets, trains, and
buses seemed quieter than they are now; there were no people
talking on cellular phones.
Cellular phones have certainly changed our
lives, but have things changed for the better?
There are many reasons for disliking cellular
phones.
They are noisy and can spoil a concert or
movie.
They intrude on our privacy.
Young people sometimes use them to deal
in drugs and schoolgirls have started using them to arrange
meetings with older men.
People who own cellular phones say that
they are indispensable for busy people.
They say that they are invaluable for doing
business when they are travelling to or from work.
Cellular phones are useful in case of an
attack by a molester or thief and have been known to save
people's lives after an accident.
Some people say that cellular phones are
the wave of the future, a sign of what is to come.
Advanced communication must be fast and
easy to use.
However, do we really need this new technology?
There are people who don't like the idea
that their boss or partner can call them anytime anywhere.
After work, shouldn't we be able to get
away from a ringing phone?
