with the gunmen cutting the throats of anybody who was still

The killers ran out of the temple, jumped
into a stolen taxi and drove away.
The terrorists were killed a little later
in a gun battle with Egyptian police.
The killers were members of an Islamic terrorist
group at war with the Egyptian government and who want to
turn Egypt into an Islamic state, instead of the democracy
it now is.
By frightening away tourists, Egypt will
lose billions of dollars every year, putting the government
under more pressure.
Most travel companies have already cancelled
their tours in Egypt and it seems that most private travelers
will cancel their holidays as well.
The sad fact is that in a matter of minutes,
a relatively small group of armed fanatics can do an incredible
amount of damage to a country, its people and those who
visit it.
