	（英会話リスニングスクリプト） At some point in the evening, one or more of the guests usually drinks too much and reaches a state of intoxication. Some people say or do things they may regret later. This is frowned upon and such loss of self control seen as a weakness. Most guests do not reach this stage they simply loosen up, laugh and become instant friends. To make a social success at a cocktail party it is useful to be skilled at small talk, have some interesting or funny stories or jokes to tell and find it easy to "break the ice", which is the ability to initiate a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Towards the end of the party, guests begin to leave, some with pleasant memories, and others with the beginnings of a headache that will soon become tomorrow's hangover. Each drifts homeward knowing that next week it will be someone else's turn to host a cocktail party.

For most Australians that is a reality, with some seventy per cent of Australians either owning their homes outright or being in the process of buying them through a mortgage. A typical Australian house is a single storied dwelling on a quarter acre block. It will have a living room, a dining room, two or three bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. Australians love to improve their homes and as their family grows they will add bedrooms, bathrooms and a room called a "family room" where they can watch television and play games such as table tennis and pool. There is also a patio or verandah for outdoor leisure such as barbeques. The land around the house is used as a garden, with lawns, flowers, shrubs and trees.
